Adobe Acrobat*
Adobe Systems Incorporated is the original creator of the PDF format.
The company produces a range of software for working with PDF files,
including Adobe Reader (formerly known as "Acrobat Reader" or "Adobe
Acrobat Reader") which is
available to download free of charge ("freeware") from the company's
web site, and which allows you to view and and print PDF files, as well
as various other products which are capable of creating and
manipulating
PDF files.
Adobe Acrobat,
which is available in both "Standard" and "Professional"
editions, is Adobe Systems' primary product for creating and
manipulating
PDF files. Both editions of the program include capabilities for
creating
PDF documents, combining files originally created in multiple programs
into
a single PDF document, and securing PDF documents using passwords and
encryption. The Professional version however also includes a number of
extra
features that will appeal to more serious users. It should also be
noted
that both
Adobe Acrobat Standard
and
Adobe Acrobat Professional
are available
in versions suitable for Microsoft Windows and for the Apple Macintosh,
however
there are some features (in both editions) which are only available in
the
Windows version of the software.
In terms of creating and manipulating PDF documents, it is probably to
fair to say that
this is one of, if not the most, powerful program on the market, and
includes
a variety powerful features. I guess that you wouldn't really expect
anything else
when you consider that Adobe created the PDF format in the first place.
The main
downside to the program is the cost - if you are on a budget, it may be
beyond
your price range.
