eWriter Pro* (Information as of May 2008) eWriter Pro is a program for creating PDF files from text. Basically the program works like a word processor, and read files prepared in Word, HTML, RTF or plain text format. It can also save back into these formats, but also includes a special "PDF button" which you can click to generate a PDF file from your content. The program is not limited to plain text, but also allows the user to take advantage of more sophisticated formatting elements including page headers and footers, page breaks, page numbering, and text frames. There are also options to create hyperlinks leading to web sites and to insert images within your content. Once you have finished preparing your content, as mentioned previously, you can convert the information into PDF format. The PDFs that you can generate can optionally incorporate security features based around passwords. You can for example require a password be entered in order for the user to open the document, and you can also set security restrictions around printing, copying of text and images to the Windows clipboard, whether changes to the document are allowed, and whether a screen reader can be used. The eWriter Pro software is compatible with Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Windows Vista (sorry it is not suitable for use on the Apple Macintosh), and available, at what I found, a surprisingly cheap price. Included in the price is a User Manual, although you may well find that the software is intuitive enough that you don't need to bother reading the manual. While some people might argue that eBookWriter Pro may not have the same degree of flexibility as more expensive programs such as PDF Creator, for many people who want to create PDFs, this program nevertheless would be perfectly adequate.
